We described in our earlier post entitled "Avoid the “All Inclusive Breakfast Buffet” approach to Stressbusting™", the importance of not trying to make too many changes to a lifestyle in an attempt to achieve wellness overnight, but that gradual changes that are both achievable and measurable should be commended.
We should beware, however, of taking the admirable step of breaking one negative lifestyle habit only to replace it with another (sometimes without even realising it!).
For example, after MikeyM™ recently identified he was consuming way too many calories from junk food - see our post entitled "Learn to ""Observe" as opposed to merely "See" to Stressbust™ efficiently" for how this came about - he reduced that calorie intake but at the same time started to drink caffeine by the bucket load. The result was increased anxiety and dehydration that left him really fatigued, particularly in the evenings, so unable to exercise as fully as he would like to.
The message here is that a wellness regime for StressBusting™ has to be continually observed as a whole to identify and prevent 'blips' such as these occurring which can send it right off track even with action premised on the very best of intentions.
It is said that "If a person becomes bored of London, they must be bored of life", so much is there to see and do there. But this does not mean a person should just for the sake of it spend 24 hours a day haphazardly siteseeing, visiting theatre and museums or roaming the old historical streets.
So too a StressBusting™ wellness regime can comprise an unlimited number of different techniques and approaches which, if deployed selectively and with focus in a way that compliment as opposed to undermine one another, can work brilliantly. But if they are applied scattergun or taken to extreme, this can be counter productive.
The key to avoiding these sorts of risks is MODERATION.
All steps in a life wellness programme should be small and steady from the start and remain so throughout, so as not to constitute too much of a shock to the system that you then seek to compensate elsewhere intentionally or unconsciously, and so that their efficacy can be calculated in the whole.
In other words, life and wellness are long games, not sprints, and approaches to them should be designed accordingly.
NB Indivividuals should consult relevant professionals in advance before embarking on any wellness programme involving dietary or activity changes if they have any concerns as to suitability or suffer from pre-existing medical conditions - for further info, please see our Legal Notices page.
Much (moderated) love
