We address the important issue of grief to varying degrees under different circumstances in our posts entitled "Stressbust™ your way through job, career or business loss", "Stressbusting™ during & after Cancer" and "Coping through a Managed Bereavement Process".
And when we recently lost a much treasured family friend at far too young an age, we were pleased to have successfully deployed many of the techniques described in those posts.
But while sharing our personal memories of the wonderful lady in question with one another, it also occurred to us that an extremely positive exercise might be to identity characteristics which the lady in question exhibited during her own lifetime that we might wish to exhibit more in our own.
The resulting 5 characteristics we arrived at as wishing to embody more ourselves were as follows:
○ Generosity - she was kind to everyone, without exception or discrimination
○ Humility - none of her professional or personal achievements ever manifested themselves in arrogance
○ Humour - she was infectious and capable of laughing at herself as well as with others
○ Positivity: nothing ever phased the lady and she could always see an upside of any situation
○ Reassuring: she had a deeply calming nature born of an immense capacity for empathy.
We found this to be an excellent exercise in not only celebrating the life of the deceased, but at the same time trying to use the example set by her to improve ourselves and our corresponding value to others, a constructive outlet for the grief and something we imagine the lady in question would truly appreciate!
We hope this simple reflective technique it is of use to anyone moving through the natural stresses of a grief curve for any reason.
Any readers who think they have been affected by grief in a manner that requires some of the excellent support available this day and age, please do not feel embarrassed or stigmatised as you are not alone, and instead reach out or see our Legal Notices page for relevant info.
Much love and care as always
