We do not purport to be experts on the question of smoking cessation.

What we do understand is that nicotine is recognised as one of the most addictive substances there is.

So stopping must take a huge effort, but with escalating costs and well advertised dangers, it is likely to pass the minds of smokers of any age at some stage or another.

We also acknowledge that as well as smoking’s more recognised physical damage, it can result in or exacerbate anxiety and even cause panic attacks to develop in some people.

Please see our previous post entitled “Identifying & Stressbusting™ Panic Attacks” for further information on the debilitating nature of such attacks.

The issue of smoking is thus naturally of direct interest to us here at StressBustingExpert™.

What we have merely observed in this regard is that the very gesture made in the act of smoking is a powerful (not to mention insulting!) one worth considering.

Is the act of smoking e.g. telling the world subconsciously to ‘get lost’ (a polite interpretation of the globally recognisable double digit gesture in question) and what does this tell us about the psychology behind smoking....?

One massive benefit of cessation reported is an increase in energy levels.

For an explanation of the importance of this to wellness, please see our post entitled “ENERGY : The Most Precious Stressbusting™ Commodity in Life”

And you are able to continually monitor your stress levels by measuring your SMI™ - please consult our post entitled “Have an SMI™ (Stress Management Index™) to accompany your BMI” for an explanation as to how to do this.

Whatever the drivers for smoking (or indeed stopping), there are of course excellent support groups and treatments available for cessation, but for us the starting point would have to be a GP – please see our Legal Notices page for further info.

There are, however, additionally a collection of our previous blog posts which, taken together or individually, may assist with any cessation objectives. Try, for example, “The Mirror Diffusal Strategy for Stressbusting™” to privately self explore whether the arguments for smoking add up.

Or consider our “Break Time Quickies entitled  “Act on your Priorities” and “Imagine2Create” respectively.

It may also be time to learn from our “Nail the Moment” post or to consult our separate post entitled “5 Key Steps to Stressbusting™ Decision Making”.

In any event and whatever the outcome, good wishes & good luck,
