We found this little number - "NYcoffee 3 in 1, Salted Caramel flavour" in passing at our local "Heron" supermarket for the bargain basement price of £1.00!
By our reckoning, when we buy a large cup of equivalent coffee when out and about, we pay a purse depleting £3.00 per cup.
This box contains 12 sachets, making the cost of a cup about 8.3 pence; so if used to replace the purchase of 12 of those cups from retail outlets per week, would save us a startling £35.00 per week; that's £140.00 per month!
So, needless to say, we were desperately hopeful that it excelled, or at least held its ground, in the taste stakes.
And to be honest, it really isn't a bad cup at all given its (amazing) price point.
Naturally, it has something of a powdery taste, but its not the overpowering type that leaves a film on the top or an unpleasant residue on the tongue; and the salted caramel comes through adequately. A good stir is the order of the day (as with any sachet drinks), but in this case makes for a warming and decent, if thin on the ground, tasting brew.
It's definitely not one for the connoisseurs as it isn't very strong or uniquely distinctive; one small cup at a time to maximise strength of taste without dilution is more than sufficient given the sweetness, so its not for volume consumption.
Then there is the calorie count; at a mere 75 per sachet, it weighs in at 150 calories less per cup than our favored local coffee shop equivalent.
Add to that the "3 in 1" element, meaning there is no need to add milk and sugar (with accompanying additional cost saving), and it may just be time for us to invest in 2 reusable carry out cups and prepare our coffees at home!
Score: 7/10 - a more than decent Imitation of a big gun cuppa at superb, if not unbeatable, StressBusting™ value
