It's always stressful - getting ready for a vacation or staycation, that is.

So how can it be made easier?

Well, for us, the secret is in the prep and here are our top 10 tips for getting travel ready in the lead up to a holiday:-

1. Draw up a list of essential tasks no later than 3 weeks before departure and keep referring back to them as needed

2. Recheck passport and travel docs are up to date and valid with time to update or renew if necessary

3. Secure travel insurance if you require it

4. Remember to schedule any medical or dental appointments around the weeks you plan to be away

5. Don't advertise too widely the fact that your home may be empty over your vacation

6. Start packing a few days in advance and add as you go to minimise stress and avoid a last minute rush

7. Have a separate "day of departure checklist" to run through before leaving the house, reminding you to ensure to pack every day use essentials such as phone chargers, baby's milk etc, etc

8. Obtain some local currency at best rates if you are likely to need it on arrival

9. Arrange any transport to the airport or railway station well in advance and have a back up plan up your sleeve in case it falls through - see our post entitled "Have a "Plan B""

10. Notify any necessary third parties such as insurers of your absence to ensure continued policy coverage and avoid ordering deliveries whilst away in case they go walkabout!

We hope these are of use.
