We can't stand it when our wardrobes get to a point when they are bursting at the seams and we have no idea where anything is!
And we detest the musty smell that can result from clothes being left too long there without a 'wearing or an airing'.
So we have regular wardrobe clear outs, which are very therapeutic and often results in us finding outfits we had forgotten we had even bought.
This is not necessarily a seasonal event, we simply determine as and when we seem to be overcluttered with garments.
Often, the inclination takes us when we are looking for something new to add to our wardrobe.
Our rules of thumb for optimising the value of our clear outs are as follows:-
● Anything on a small hanger is likely to be less desirable to us than garments on quality hangers!
● If we haven't worn something that we have not forgotten about and is not obviously seasonal for 3 months or longer, it's out - we are brutal in this respect
● If something doesn't fit, we don't fall into the trap of keeping it just 'because it might fit one day'
● Equally, we pay no heed to the cost of an item - just because it was expensive doesn't mean it is excepted from the normal decision making rules, because if we are not wearing it, we clearly erred in buying it in the first place!
● We have due regard for the overall style of our wardrobe against what we seek to achieve style wise for ourselves. If we have a lovely piece but never wear it because it doesn't go with anything else we have, then there is zero point in keeping it
● We take whatever we can to charity shops rather than throwing it out, as we like the idea of it continuing to be in circulation without wastage.
We hope these little ideas help and urge readers to share experiences or strategies of their own!
