There is nothing worse than suffering from hay fever in the Summer - it can be debilitating and ruin many an otherwise lovely day.
And it is becoming increasingly prevalent in people who have never suffered from it before.
As it is something from which we both suffer and with which we have both been diagnosed, we have identified some self help steps that help reduce symptoms for us that we thought we would share with our readers-
● check pollen forecasts online to be prepared - in Summer, we check this almost as often as we check the weather!
● wear sunglasses, a hat and appropriate sun protection as often as possible when outdoors
● have regular periods indoors to get away from the pollen
● avoid going into the country or woodlands on high pollen days - instead head for the beach for a day out, where the pollen count is likely to be lower
● wash your face regularly through the day to wash pollen off and shower daily to get it off the rest of your body
● avoid mowing the lawn yourself or if you do it, wait until lower pollen days or times of the day when the pollen count is forecasted to dip
● drink plenty of water to keep hydrated as pollen can be extremely drying
● have the house cleaned regularly to clear out any pollen that is inside - for the additional benefits of this if you are able to do it yourself (or alternatively for a means of persuading someone else to do it for you!), see our post entitled "The StressBusting™ capacity of household chores"
● try not to wear the same clothes 2 days in a row as pollen sticks
● carry a box of tissues around!
We hope that helps, though note every person is different, so readers should consult relevant medical practitioners before committing to any self help steps if they suffer any undiagnosed symptoms or otherwise consider they feel unwell enough to warrant doing so, particularly where there are pre-existing medical conditions - please see our Legal Notices page for further info.
Much love and care as always
