Being a rather romantic couple (when time, energy and nappy changing permit) there is a balanced ballad to party mix in our selection below, which will comprise our Christmas Day Music Menu this year!
Not all might be regarded as “Christmas Songs” in the truest sense, but we feel their tone and content capture the essence of the season beautifully, with a heavy emphasis on family, reflection, regeneration, optimism, paying tribute and a positive future, all core Stressbusting™ concepts when genuinely embraced at any time of year.
We hope you like all of these that are readily available online via a search of their “name and artist” as indicated below:
1. “Driving Home for Christmas by Chris Rea”
This just has a lovely, relaxing, hot chocolatey Xmas Eve feel which is perfect for seeing in the Big Day
2. “Higher Love by Whitney Houston”
This was our dating song, but that aside deserves its inclusion on a Christmas list for its entirely uplifting, ambient message of hope and of course Whitney’s unbeatable vocal reach
3. “All I Want for Xmas by Mariah Carey”
Just pure Christmas through and through, this is one of LouLoU™'s favourites. It captures all the madcap excitement of the season in one go, and never fails to get you jigging
4. “When A Child is Born by Jonny Mathis”
One of the most beautiful songs ever written, no Xmas collection would be complete without this classic.
It carries the essence of regeneration and renewal that should be encapsulated within life’s journey by everyone
5. “Mr Bojangles (live version) by Sammy Davis, Jnr “
A melodic journey of genius, performed with beauty and sensitivity by a legend of both song and dance in his prime
6. “Bells of New York City by Josh Groban”
A perhaps lesser known choice on our list.
But if you close your eyes, this song transports you to a cosy winter’s evening in Central Park.
A worthy entry to our list from an artist who has well merited his global recognition and success
7. “This House by Gary Barlow”
Again, not one of the most well known songs from the former Take That star’s considerable portfolio, but the lyrics and simplicity of beat that allow the words to lead, capture all that is rich about the festive period and give the season’s family focus a positive connotation, even amidst the inevitable dramas that come with it!
It’s almost like Gary is strumming away in your front room
8. “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant by Billy Joel”
The artist recently indicated that of all the songs he has written and performed, this is his favourite.
Given he has written a huge collection of songs bristling with unmistakable rhythm and strong messages, that is no mean feat.
And it’s easy to hear why - you feel you are almost in the restaurant with the couple in question.
And the unravelling story that is wrapped around that basic scene spanning decades is a tremendous tale of love and despair, but with reinvention and reflection of the whole at its core.
A true masterpiece.
9. “Candle in the Wind by Elton John”
This well known song from the undisputed Lord of Ballads is virtually meditation to music. Immense quality - a seasonal message of love, reflection and tribute to absent family and friends.
We defy you not to sing along!
10. “Precious Love by James Morrison”
This is one that MikeyM™ dedicates to LouLoU™.
The song is jumping with positivity but unbrash and simple in just conveying what love can bring if you only let it in.
-Happy Listening-
