“Patience is a Virtue” – an old adage with much resonance.

The speed of modern day life, however, is stretching patience to breaking point.

Everyone wants everything done this time yesterday and the technology is there to facilitate it.

Yet there are times when we simply have no option but to be patient – waiting for the outcome of a job interview, a mortgage application, an offer we have made on e-bay or some medical tests, to give just a few examples.

We want to move forward and make decisions, but the delay is holding us back and there is simply nothing we can do.

We have a mental technique we use in such instances.

We imagine ourselves at the centre of a circle with the impatience wrapped tightly around us in the form of another circle, choking us.

We then breathe to the count of 4 seconds in and 6 out, and while doing this imagine gently pushing the circle away from us, so that there is an increasing amount of space between us and the circle.

The secret is to mentally feel the relief as the circle moves away, almost as if the ‘pressure of the impatience” has been alleviated.

If we start getting impatient again, then we have the picture in our minds with the increased space to relax and move in whilst we await the outcome of whatever was the initial source of our impatience.

While this may not work for everyone, it does for us and is worth a try.

We hope this simple technique is of some use.
