It's never nice for you humans to have to take your treasured pups or other darlings to the vets.

Naturally, you worry about what the outcome of treatments and examinations will be.

And because we can't speak like other loved ones, we can't tell you how we feel.

The older we are, the more you obviously worry.

But here are some K9 tips to make the endurance easier for us and therefore less traumatic for you:-

● choose a reputable, registered and regulated veterinary practice

● place and maintain suitable insurance so we can access the best treatment as and when the time comes (as it most likely will) without delay

● bear in mind we pick up on your emotions, so try not to be a crumbling wreck on the days leading up to our appointment or on the day itself

● listen to the advice of the vet, rather than maintaining that you know us better - he or she went to medical school for a reason

● take us a favourite toy along to the appointment for comfort and a snack treat in case we have to wait

● appreciate that treatment may necessitate recovery time, so have a care regime in mind if not in place before the appointment arrives

● make decisions based on advice that is in our interests, not your own.

I hope that helps at what can be a difficult time!
