We have spoken in earlier posts about the supposed power of NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) and its possible application to stress and inner wellness by instilling positive internal as well as outward modes of thinking.
See, for example, our posts entitled “Learn to Expect (and Accept) the Unexpected to Stressbust™ More Effectively” and "Break Time Quickie - Imagine2Create" respectively.
For this reason, you find a lot of sales executives and politicians either naturally utilising, or even having been trained in, NLP, as the purpose of their roles is to persuade people to think in a particular way about the product or argument they are offering to facilitate a desired end result.
NLP is not a concept we endorse as a turnkey stressbusting™ solution as we think the way is argues the categorisation of ‘people types’ is too simplistic to account for the individual nature of experience, but it does hold facets if interest that may assist as parties of a wider stressbusting™ strategy with the individual at its core, utilising the specialist support referenced in our Legal Notices page as necessary or appropriate.
NLP, for example, promotes the use of particular sorts of words to achieve its objectives, and these comprise some of the most powerful words in any language.
Such words might, for example, include:-
“We” - engendering a sense of collectivism
“Imagine” – engaging the visual facility to create powerful pictures of the desired end result (not unlike the sprinters described in our previous post entitled Break Time Quickie – “Imagine2Create”)
“Because” – fully conveying the reasoning a particular position or statement
“Options” – reinforcing the fact that all is not lost and that someone has a choice
“Timeless” – suggesting a degree of longevity, warmness and quality to which we all naturally aspire and are attracted.
A more comprehensive list of select NLP words can be accessed elsewhere by a simple online search and it may be worth acquainting yourself with them and the NLP arguments for their usage if you have the time (see our post entitled "Embrace Technology to Stressbust™" for further info).
We do not propose for one second that anyone alter their whole style of communication off the back of this, but their increased usage in appropriate circumstances may help inject grammar with greater positivity and equally may help achieve conciliation or positive influence with third parties should the need arise (now that’s a real stressbusting™ act all of its own!) 🙂
