While a bit hesitant at 1st, this is something we did together last year as a family and it turned out to be fabulous fun.
There are a number of really useful online tools that offer Crest generating services free with an onward option to order printed or framed versions for decoration purposes at a reasonable price – see our related post entitled "Embrace Technology to Stressbust™".
But its not just about what the Crest ends up looking like.
We decided not to opt for the standard crest reflecting our family name (which you can do) but rather to build a new one from a standing start which encapsulated our values, interests & life objectives.
And a brilliant part of the exercise for us was discussing what these were as a family first and determining what imagery and words we should incorporate into our Family Crest (or “Coat of Arms” as it is sometimes called).
It was fascinating to compare what each member of the family considered to be its core modus operandi and reach a decision on the Crest that captured, accommodated and validated everyone’s views.
We now have a Family Crest displayed in our house which is unique to our family and nobody else in the world, and which acts as a permanent reminder and point of reference of the values we agree we strive for.
Activities like this can help bring us closer together and engender the type of dialogue that is fabulous for stressbusting™ – see our related post entitled "Extend your Vocabulary to Stressbust™".
Framed versions also form a lovely meaningful personal gift to family and friends and our Crest can also e.g. be superimposed onto cups and greetings cards if desired – see our related post entitled "The Best Gifts are "made@homewith❤".
We cannot therefore recommend what was an immensely useful and enjoyable exercise highly enough.
And we hope you like the end result!
