Lots of athletes have access to top psychology and life coach practitioners to support them in their quest for glory who help them engage mental strategies as much as physical training to improve their performance nowadays.
Take the 100m sprinter, for example.
They are likely to be encouraged not only imagine leading the race, but also the experience of elation they would have on crossing the finishing line ahead of their competitors in the Olympic Final.
Sometimes focusing on the end game of what you are trying to achieve in life can be lost amidst the effort, endeavour and hard work more often than not required to get there.
But there is a school of thought to the effect that the more vividly one repeatedly and regularly imagines the feeling of satisfaction of achieving a particular goal or objective, the more likely one is to achieve it in the end.
We also read a few weeks back about a gentleman who claims before he won the lottery that he told everyone he would win that day, because he had already seen and felt himself winning.
Some people explain this phenomenon on the basis that the more often an achieved objective is vividly imagined as having been achieved, so the subconscious mind starts to treat the objective less as a target and more as a reality, thus creating the reality itself.
Here at StressBustingExpert™, we have no way of verifying whether this is possible.
Nor do we understand how a series of subconscious images or thoughts can in effect 'create' a reality.
But we do find that, once we have specifically defined wellness objectives, it assists our efforts to achieve them to have visually encouraging reminders of our end game objevtive in plain sight on a day to day basis.
For example, when recently seeking to gain increased wellness through a better managed lifestyle diet and exercise regime, it inspired and incentivised us greatly to have photographs of us from the past when we were at our target wellness levels, around the house.
This, we believe, did not of itself bring us or create the ‘reality’ (this was achieved by us following our pre-agreed Programme to Wellness alongside our commitment to it), but rather it was a reassurance that our objective was capable of being achieved with the correct attitude.
The obvious difference between the sprinter/lottery winner and an embracing of wellness of whatever nature is that the sprinter/lottery winner are each preparing for a one off event, while wellness improvements involve long term habit changing for a better life.
We cover off the subject of “Habit Changing” in a separate dedicated post entited "10 Super Cost Effective Stressbusting™ Tips to Dietary Wellness that SAVED us Money" and "10 Stressbusting™ Themes for Decorating to Innovate & Inspire", but hope these Break Time Quickie thoughts are of use or provide a basis for interesting discussion in the meantime
