The literal translation of this French term is "Do as you Will".
The original driving force behind it was that the less a government interferes with the economy, the better the economy will fare and that by extension so will society as a whole.
It is, though, a principle of living that equally lends itself well to StressBusting™.
We have learned first hand that trying to direct people towards a particular course of action or to refrain from a specific action, even when gentle persuasion is clearly geared to their best interests, simply isolates them and if anything increases the likelihood of them self sabotaging in the process.
We have observed this with children and adults of all ages alike, and it is incredibly stressful to watch when you care for them.
Nevertheless, having given your thoughts and opinions, you truly are better off leaving people to determine their own decisions and decisions, regardless of outcome.
This can be particularly frustrating if you know you are likely to end up being the one to pick up the pieces if (or when) it all goes wrong.
But isn't that what parenthood and friendship, for example, are all about in the first place?
And by worrying about people not reaching the right decision (if indeed there is any 'right' in the first place as why ought you be the one to decide this?!), when knowing fine well you may then enter a subsequent state of anxiety trying to rectify any damage caused, you are just creating a "double bubble" of stress for yourself unnecessarily.
And ultimately, we cannot (and are not permitted to) control or coerce other people in modern day society for very good reason. In this regard, even the Law itself directs us to "Laissez Faire" and let people take, but also own, their actions and decision making.
So take a leaf out of the book of the French, have your measured say if requested to by all means, but then put your feet up and forget about it!
