Boy, do these Brits love their rules and regulations.
Take for example the K9 rules actually advertised – yes, advertised – on a dedicated notice board @ a local Diner we visited yesterday that has the audacity to actively describe itself as being ‘Dog Friendly’.
Now the overwhelming vast majority of we K9s are (not unlike most humans) simple, law abiding creatures, believe it or not – and patient to boot.
But ‘rules' like this can become just tiresome, particularly when they are so unnecessary.
The dangers of an over prescriptive society is that it breeds resentment and contempt that can manifest itself in all kinds of unsavoury forms.
But this seems to make no difference to the would be rule makers that be.
Returning to the Diner to hand – what on earth happened to the exercising the common sense that has carried us successfully as a society through the generations?
I’m a rare form of K9 able to read and type with some fluency, but I’m not sure this Diner realises the majority of us cannot - as the placard was lodged against the bottom of their bar at dog reading as opposed to human reading height! 😲 😁🐕
And as for the rules themselves – well, you try to stop a dog barking once it’s started!
It happens to be what we do (particularly when we see other dogs!) and is supposed to be part of our charm to humans.
And as for climbing on furniture – that’s what we’re built for.
But in sum total, according to this Diner’s “Dogs House Rules”, provided we lie under the correct table, we remain tethered at all times, we don’t sleep, we don’t bark unduly or heavens above show aggression as dogs, whether through excitement or otherwise, we aren’t visible and we resist the urge to make ourselves comfortable, we are fine.
Gee Whizz, how to make a pooch feel welcome!
Wouldn’t something simple along the lines of “Dogs are most welcome, but please ensure they pose no risk to others” suffice?!
It’s little wonder the Brits report feeling repressed!
Anyway, keep well guys – and for Pete's sake keep just exercising common sense even if the barking mad would be dictators don’t!
Big Love, (a relieved to be home) Big Hank 🐶 xxxx
