Some people find presenting themselves, their concepts and their arguments easier than others do.
But there are a number of simple and widely accessible techniques that can be utilised to make the process more bearable, effective and even enjoyable for those who may feel they'd prefer not to be in the spotlight for any reason.
These include:-
● researching both the audience and subject matter in advance to instil confidence and relevance
● practicing steady breathing techniques before and during delivery to assist pace of delivery
● not being afraid to pause during delivery - a few seconds to a nervous presenter can feel like a lifetime, but it actually gives an audience time to take stock
● draw specialist input on content in advance as necessary - again this will aid confidence that what is being said is accurate
● smile regularly during presentation as it helps warms an audience toward the presenter
● rehearse in front of someone or people you trust and incorporate their honest feedback - this could for example be a trusted colleague or family members
● avoid a big night out just before you present so you look the part
● and if driving or travelling to the event with headphones available, "Sing your Heart out to StressBust™ through Road Rage or Nerves"!
Experts have also suggested that a good anxiety settler is to imagine the audience all wearing silly costumes and such like. We have no idea if this works but see no reason not to try it (but without accompanying chuckles, of course!).
